First, why do people pay such insane prices for stuff on there? They're often much higher than heritage.

Second, why do I often see the same coin for sale over and over again even after it sells? Are people trying to crack them for upgrades, or something?
Rest in Peace

I tried to purchase some colonial coins (fugio and Washington pieces). The colonial coins are not very active on the ebay; thus, I tried to bid from the Heritage and the Teletrade. I agreed with you that the Heritage is a better choice. However, I don't know why people bid on the Teletrade.

The closest I ever got to winning something on Teletrade was a super worn, former jewelry gold piece. I bid bullion value with two hours to go, then lost by more than my bid.

I've seen the same coins over and over on Teletrade too. I don't get it. I've never bought from them and probably never will. They seem shady to me with again, ridiculous fees. I've only bid and won on Heritage once. It was a coin I really wanted.

Teletrade allows the sellers to bid on their own lots. so if you sell something and don't like the price its going for you can place a buy back bid. Then turn around a re-submit it in the next auction.

I didn't know teletrade allowed the seller to bid on their own coins. I bought a couple coins from them 2 years ago. The price I ended up paying turned out to be slightly high retail after the fees & postage. I'm not big on paying retail, much less high retail, so I probably won't be buying there again.

i notice that a lot of coins that ended on heritage a few weeks ago are on teletrade right now. I bought there once- am new to the hobby. I find their format horrifying and confusing. knowing now that sellers can bid on their own items makes it impossible for me to imagine ever bidding there. if someone buys something at heritage, regrets it, then decides to resell, they will have inflated the price at heritage, and make it impossible for anyone to get the item at a reasonable price. not cool.

From what I've heard Heritage used to have their own people right on the auction floor, with name tags, bidding.
