Passed through 3,000 rolls recently ..... here is my usual 10,000 coin find rate update.

Remember ..... I consider all nickels 1959 and prior as a 'find' ...

Previous 10,000 Coins (5 boxes)

Found 141 total, for a rate of 1.41% (obviously). This 5 box set had 12 'special' coins as I define them; 1 Liberty V (a 1899 which I bragged about here), 7 Buffalo, 3 War Silver and 1 'Key" Jefferson.

Overall Find Rate:

Overall find rate is 1.280%. This equates to 78.1 raw coins per find, or an average of 25.6 pre-1960 finds per $100 box.

Special Coins Find Rate:

Remember .... "Special" is a Liberty V, Buffalo, War Silver or any of the nine (9) circulation strike Jefferson with annual mintage below 10 million.

Overall Special Coin Find Rate is 1 find/1714 raw coins searched

Liberty V find rate is 1 find/60,000 raw (found 2)
Buffalo find rate is 1 find/6667 raw (found 18)
War Silver find rate is 1 find/3429 raw (found 35)
"Key" Jefferson find rate is 1/8000 raw (found 15)

Jefferson Circulation Obsolescence:

For those new to this statistic ..... this means ... what percentage of the original 1959 and prior Jefferson circulation strike has disappeared as of 2009.

Overall Obsolescence 1938-1959 is 81.3%

1930's is 82.5%
Pre-War 1940's is 81.9%
War Silver is 98.2 % (no surprise there)
Post-War 1940's is 78.2%
Early 1950's is 72.8%
Late 1950's is 68.9%

Thats it .... enjoy

David

Is this a dying sport? LOL.

How long did it take you to go through 10,000 nickels?
