Hi all!

After sharing my first ancient purchase here a while back:
https://goccf.com/t/54332
I've been very interested in adding to my collection. I went to a coin show shortly after picking up that one and was very disappointed to see that there was only one booth set up to deal in ancients, and they were all very high end...way out of my price range. So I've continued to shop locally and online and wanted to share my small, not high grade, not expensive, (but fun to me) collection of Ancient Roman coins (all info is from the dealer...I haven't looked any of them up for myself yet):

Severus Alexander AE25. 228 AD. Caesarea, Cappadocia

Caracalla AE26. 196-217AD. Thrace, Anchialus

Elagabalus AE25. 218-222 AD. Moesia Inferior, Markianopolis

Faustina II 145-175 AD. Rome Mint

Faustina Faustina Junior AE21. 146-176 AD. Thrace, Pautalia

Gordian III AE25. 238-244AD. Thrace, Odessos
My-New-Collection-Of-Ancient-Romans---Just-Sharing-For-Fun!

Philip I AE28. 244-249 AD. Mosia Superior, Viminacium
My-New-Collection-Of-Ancient-Romans---Just-Sharing-For-Fun!

Septimius Severus AE27. 193-211 AD. Moesia Inferior, Markianopolis
My-New-Collection-Of-Ancient-Romans---Just-Sharing-For-Fun!

Maximinus II AE Follis. 308-309 AD. Cyxicus Mint
My-New-Collection-Of-Ancient-Romans---Just-Sharing-For-Fun!

I'm really enjoying this new collection, even if it's sort of random so far. I'm looking forward to learning more about the people depicted on the coins that I have collected. I think most people do it the opposite way...collect for a certain figure or type. I was just interested in having a few nice, fun looking coins at this early point in my collection that will allow me to learn more about the people, the time period, and the coins themselves. I also wanted larger ones for easy viewing, not just the tiny ones that are as small as or smaller than a dime. These are each approx. the size of a quarter more or less...some a little larger, a few just a touch smaller.

If you're interested, additional info about each coin can be seen by clicking on the images here:

Thanks for looking!

echizento: Thanks!

I just remembered that I have this book:

Ancient Coin Collecting III: The Roman World - Politics and Propaganda
http://www.amazon.com/Ancient-Coin-...83221&sr=8-2
I went through and flagged all of the pages with information about emperors (and other figures) depicted on the coins that I have, so now I can do a little bit of research on each of them! It actually looks like a have a pretty good run of emperors from a certain time frame...maybe I'll try to fill in some of the gaps next...

Nice coins bwbollom! each one is more than 1,500 years old. It's like looking at our 2009 coins now... then looking at it again sometime in year 3509! wow!

Thanks Nic! That's what I really like about collecting these. Yeah, they may just be the pennies and nickels of 1500 years ago, but that's ok...I collect pennies and nickels from today too Just the idea that these were produced during the time of the Roman Emperors and still exist today is amazing to me.

The fact that they are priced to where I can afford to collect them and not just for rich people and museums is awesome! Being able to hold and own a piece of history like this is really cool. A friend of mine came over yesterday and I just happened to have my coin box sitting out. He was flipping through some of them saying he didn't know I collected coins, etc. I said to check out the last row...there's some new stuff I've picked up (the ancients) and he was floored! He wanted to stare at them and hold them, it was really funny They're great conversation pieces!

I am still learning on the ancients myself. I love the few I have. Those are great looking coins!
