I'm still missing a 2008 Ironside 2p. For a 10m mintage they're not as common as you'd think. Same as the 2009 50's & £2's I suppose, got all the other 09's but they're hiding!

I found a 1993 5p in my change jar when I routed through it collecting my set last year...Not likely to find another one of those in circulation for a while :D

EDIT:

Just received an email today from The Royal Mint confirming NO 2009 50p's were issued into circulation !

Now, this raises another question...I was asking about the normal Dent shield 50p's but forgot to specify, and the reply said 'no 2009 50p's ' so I'm assuming that means none of the special issues were either

Thank you for your email.

I can confirm that no 2009 50p's have been released into circulation and I am unable to advise of 2010 release dates. We make circulation coins to fulfill orders from banks so unfortunately there are no set dates.

Message: Hi there, I'm wondering if you could possibly answer a few queries I have regarding mint figures and 2010 release dates. My little brother is collecting circulation coins and has been desperately searching for a 2009 50 pence piece, and after finding many other 2009 issues, still no 50p. Am I right in thinking by looking at the mintage figures that there were no 2009 50p's released into circulation (The first time since they were reduced in size!) ? Also, could you give us an estimate as to when 2010 circulation issues will be released ? Thanks for your time. Steve & CJ

Correct (up to now) No 2009 50p of the standard or Kew Gardens type have been issued. Also no 2009 £2 coins have been issued.
See the mintage figures table on The Royal Mint website :

So this means the following will not be found in circulation:

50 Pence Kew Gardens
50 Pence Kid Design Olympic
50 Pence Royal Shield
2 Pound Charles Darwin
2 Pound Robert Burns
2 Pound Normal Reverse

2008/2009/2010 look like bad years for UK coin collectors....

The 2009 Olympic 50p I'm told will be re-issued for circulation as part of the Olympic 50p series, not sure if it will be dated 2010/11 or 12
But going on the complete lack of new issue 50p - I'm beginning to think the mint's plans to issue these 50p may be in a bit of a mess....!

2008-2009-2010 definately has been a bad year for UK circulating coin collectors, since after late 2008, I reraly find anything useful, no more circulating commemoritive 50p, not different 1 Pound desings, besides the Royal Shield design, so I think Pound starts to be boring, just like most of the Eurozone. :( too bad.

In theory, with the new olympic 50ps, they will circulate as many as possible, get people in the olympic spirit, either that or only make them as an excuse to sell more gold and silver at inflated prices! We'll see in August!

It's the whole point of circulating commemoritives I think, to circulate, get people in spirit. Back in early 2008, almost a quarter of 50p's that circulate was commemoritive. Now it seems to be changed I think because I rarely see one a day, or one per two days once I am there. Will be there within a few days, as the volcanic activity ended (yay!) I'll look for some more.

So if kid designed Olympic 50 pence did not make it into circulation....what is going to happen about the other 28 50 pence coins proposed for the 2012 Olympics?

I don't think the mint knows. They were going to have winners by last July, now it is this August/September.

I thought they were going to release one per month for the last 29 months, now they are all coming out in September or so.

I'm not able to get out much at the moment, but today was worth the aches and pains. At last I've finally got a 2008 Olympic £2.00.

I don't think we will see any 2009 50 pence or £2 in circulation from 2009 since according The Royal Mint, none were released for circulation according to the mintage figures which were updated in March 2010.

http://www.royalmint.com/corporate/...g_coins.aspx

So I would also have to assume that means no one has found the 2009 Kid Designed 50 pence coin in circulation.

I have both £2 coins....
It was announced when the Blue Peter 50p was released that it would not be found in circulation.
