The pictures came out pretty well GoldRush. You must have dropped a pretty penny picking up that many pieces at once. I'd get those coins out of the flips and into Air-Tites pronto. Coin World also has some nice "slab" holders if you want to spend a few extra bucks. Good Luck!

bherring It is a joint effort to put some gold away between my dad and I. We bought 4 eagles and 2 maple leafs last week. Those are already in the banks safety deposit box. The dealer I bought them from said to leave the buffalo's in the mint sealed plastic, they are in a sort of vacuum sealed type plastic film. We did not talk about the other gold I have been buying. Have you, or anyone else here, known any problems with leaving gold coins in coin flips, in a bank box? I have left silver eagles in my home safe, in coin flips for years and do not see any effect.

Some flips are safe for long term storage but many are not. Flips are generally not a good long term storage method because of their composition.
The mint sealed material will be fine but I would remove all the coins from other flips. Your Eagles are likely picking up contaminants from off-gassing and possibly PVC even if you can't see it at this time.
Koin-tains and Ait-Tites are cheap and safe.

I know your right .. been spending $1150 to $1300 for the gold coins, why be cheap and not put them in a better holder. I will be going back to the coin shop before taking them to the bank.
Also .. how do you upload a pic to a post like this. I figured out how to post pics when I start a post, but not when replying to one active.

bherring Thanks again, this post is sort of a learning process for me. As far as taking pics and being able to post them. Plus I sort of wanted to post of some of my collection, I guess to show I am trying to be a serious collector. I keep better coins and the gold I am buying at the bank. But keep some of the other stuff I am working on more available.

After looking at those pics. I am thinking did not look to good laying the coins out on the shop floor like that. I better try to display them better. Was not thinking very clear there. Hard enough to be a coin collector and have to be a photographer too. Light in the house is not that great.

I have never seen a 1 dollar red seal. Are they rare?

Still playing ...learning how to take better photo's. The gold eagles really do look a lot better in the air tight holders.
