One of my favorite coins. Seller states that they did not alter or clean the coin. I believe that statement as they may have only had it for a few weeks per se. I'm curious if anyone thinks this had an old cleaning and/or what the striations are on the obverse. While this is one of my favorite designs, it's certainly not a series I am proficient at. Thoughts on "cleaned" and a grade please?

tights24,

Is that a lamination on the planchet (obverse 1 to 3 o'clock)? Other than that spot, I would guess MS63 or 64. The fields are very clean and I see luster all over the place.

That's what I can't figure out. Just hoping someone may know what it is. I don't have the coin in hand, and these are the pics online for it. I really like the reverse, and it certainly looks like a lot of luster still shows.. thanks Seated.

It does look like lamination, other than that the coin has beautiful detail and luster. MS-63.

The area of interest appears to be a lamination but a little bit further down, the denticles and rims look a bit dinged up. I would not purchase without a better pic of that area.

To me, there appears to be some scrape damage along the right outer quarter of the obverse of this beautiful coin leaving both rims damaged.

BUT, Wonderful detail on the obverse (EF-45 grade), flawless reverse (MS-62 grade) gives an overall AU-55 for me!

I don't see any evidence of cleaning.

VERY nice and I'm sure you can't see any of these scrapes without magnification. A great addition to anyone's collection!

Is that wear on the hair bun and on the leaves? If it is AU-58. If its weak strike then MS-63. I have way to much trouble in determining weak strike from wear.

Thanks folks. I think the reason this one is not in a holder and others are is maybe due to what was mentioned here. I'm thinking some kind of damage to the coin on the rims. Between that and not being a high dollar coin to begin with, I think I may just keep an eye on it. Seems pretty nice for a raw sample regardless.
