As a personal courtesy I request that you do not bid against me on this coin. Of course, you're free to do as you wish. But if you do may the flees of a thousand camels infest your body and home. I found a Standing Liberty quarter on ebay that I think looks spectacular and I really want it. In fact, if it looks like the picture in hand I'm willing to pay a sharp premium for it. But I have a couple of concerns and/or questions. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...:RTQ:US:11231: The Seller information says, "Canada" but the item location says, "Paisley, Scotland., United Kingdom." What gives? 2: Is there any special concerns or considerations when purchasing coins internationally? I've only purchased from the continental US. 3: The seller is offering NO RETURNS. 4: I asked the seller if the photos were enchanced or altered in any way - if they look the same in hand. His reply sounded more like a salesman than a serious numismatist to me. "Hello, just believe me that this coin looks much much nicer in hands. There is no reason for me to alter or enhance anything which doesn`t reflect what you can expect to receive. Buy with confidence, you won`t be disappointed in any way. Good luck and merry christmas. Regards, Frank" _______ Ordinarily I would just walk away without even blinking. But if this coin is accurately represented I really want it, so I'm looking for some neutral advice. Thanks! His feedback is excellent and his about me page would lead me to believe he knows about numismatics. If I was in the market for this coin I would not think twice about buying it from him. Your best bet in order to win this coin is to snipe it about 15 seconds before the end of the auction. Put in the most you are willing to pay and keep your fingers crossed. Best wishes on your efforts to win the coin. Sincerely, John Leckrone

From looking over the ad, I see the seller's location as Paisley, Scotland and a seller's piece of advise for the Canadian Collectors that they can use a certain electronic way to pay. I admit it does look confusing. The coin looks fantastic and well deserving of the AU-53 grade. NGC is certainly a good grading company. I do get a bit concerned when I see a seller that doesn't accept returns. (There should be a unconditional return policy). My overall impression: he's a solid ebay seller with good feedback. I think you'd be happy with this coin and I think you should bid on it.

Yes he has good feedback... but I don't like his listings much. Some seem a little deceptive and he breaks several ebay rules. No replica or copy in the title & PCGS prices listed in the auction for starters. Tactics generally used to hype the noobs. http://cgi.ebay.com/HONG-KONG-VICTO...ER_W0QQitemZ120502680839QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_Coins_World_RL?hash=item1c0e84fd07

I agree that it's a pretty coin, but my policy has always been that if I have any questions about an ebay auction I don't bid. In this case the lack of a return policy would kill it for me.

Hi Army. Are you back from your tour of duty? I NEVER bid with any seller that does not offer a return privilige for a full refund. Think about it - why would any reputable seller not offer a return policy if he truly wants you to be happy. As regards the coin - for an AU it doesn't show much mint luster. If the toning it truly blue than it could be nice, but I bet it is way darker than the photos. Just my opinion.

What a spectacular coin.
Both Moe and scubu raise important points. I suspect that "pattern" is a term acceptable in this seller's environment to describe a copy - Spink uses the term in their offerings of such coins. Although deceptive from an American standpoint, it's less so in context.
Value approaches $200+ in PCGS AU53. I believe this one to be a couple points conservatively graded at AU53, and will probably command a premium due to the color. If it were me, though, I wouldn't exceed $230 for it - they're not uncommon in this and better grades (PCGS has slabbed only 120 examples of lower grade than this, out of 800 total), and this kind of money will put you into a Mint State example with a little judicious shopping.
Your call.

Interac is a debit card payment system used within Canada at stores and such. All of the major Canadian banks allow you to send money directly from your bank account, to someone else through Interac Online (google it for more info). Whether you have to pay a fee(a few dollars) or not depends on your banking plan, this seller is probably covered and will avoid giving a bigger piece of his transaction to paypal. If he is asking for interac, I'm guessing he has registered his bank account with ebay, so he should be ebay verified. I would personally avoid paying with any method other than paypal, because you have no recourse if things go wrong. I do find it strange that his items are in another country versus his account. Ask him why. I just checked out the ebay link, the seller posted your previous question for everyone to see, a positive I think. ***On the negative side, no refunds. If you don't feel comfortable with this, I would recommend you e-mail him about it. If you don't like the answer, don't bid. It would not hurt to check out the NGC certification if you can. The seller's rating appears to be solid, with recent positive feedback. Bottom line, if you feel comfortable with a no refund policy, go ahead and bid.

I just asked the following: Quote: Why does the item location say Paisley, Scotland - but your location says Canada?
Also, why is it you do not accept returns? I hope you don't mind all of the questions but I'm usually reluctant to buy from someone with no return policy. Once I get an answer and read some more comments on here, I'll make a decision. Thanks for all your input thus far, guys.

OK, I received an answer. Quote: Hello, I do live half of the year in Canada but also live in Scotland...always depending on the job and contract...but I try, if possible, to avoid Canada during the long winter...I do have a return policy but it might not be mentioned on this auctionside...so you right and I am happy for your question...you can return a coin within 10 days of receipt if the coin is still in it`s original state such as PCGS, NGC, ICCS holder...that happend never before thought...if you need any further assistence, please feel free to drop another email. Thank you again, Frank His auction plainly says, "Returns: No Returns Accepted" but then he did post this question and answer to the page. So I suppose this would count as an addendum to his listing? I'm going to bid on it, just not as high as I initially planned. It just looks to me like the photo has kind of a unnatural looking blue hue to it. And like okie-colin I suspect the coin is a fair bit darker in person. We'll see what happens! Comments are still welcome. Thanks again for your input, everyone.

I'm not sure that I'd fault him that much for not accepting returns on slabbed coins in most cases (although USArmy's post suggests he may be more lenient). If someone is selling a slabbed coin by one of the major TPG's I'd find it hard for a reasonable buyer to claim the coin wasn't what they expected. Of course, it would be a different story if it turned out to be fake. He doesn't seem to be making any wild claims about the coin in his auction description either.

I must be missing something. SLQs in high grade always create a chase.
But this particular coin at this price? why the hype? Still 5 days left and it is bound to grow a bit so the pricing just seems like it will be average at best. I would not go on any limbs for it given the circumstances.
If I am missing something please share.

Very nice looking coin. I'll bet the toning is in the blue range and looks very good. However I have been watching certified AU SLQ's for awhile on ebay, and have seen PCGS graded 58's w/fh for the $200 range with full return privileges. I would have to pass on an out of country purchase.

Seems like a nice coin, and if I were you I'd bid on it, but personally the color doesn't appeal to me. But as long as you bid reasonably this could be a nice addition. If I were looking for one, and I used ebay, I'd probably bid on this one. The fact that it's raw would probably scare me away though. http://cgi.ebay.com/1917-D-Standing...FH_W0QQitemZ220522168668QQcmdZViewItemQQptZCoins_US_Individual?hash=item335825415c
