Guys, I need some help here,
I havea jar full of Lincoln pennies, maybe 1000 or more that I purchased from a local dealer back in 2001. As I went a quick search through them, I found several Wheat Pennies and set them aside. I haven't checked the rest of the jar. I've checked a couple of catalogs, tKrause, the Blackbook, etc. and found out that every one of them ahs different opinions for coins that are considered "rare". I want your opinions, sicne colelctors generally have more accurate ideas concering circulation coins. I'll have some time this weekend and want to go through all those cents to see if there is something worth 2x2'ing inside them. What years, what mintmarks and what varieties do you think I should be looking for?.. coins date between 1960's to 2001. At a first glance I spotted many 1988, 1992, 1970's bright red pennies inside it. I am looking for directions and suggestions, as I am highly ignorant when it comes to the US coins, I don't know much about them.
Thanks.

molydeii,

Coins are basically like anything bought or traded. Basically comes down to supply ie mintage for that year and location and demand ie us collectors.

let's see...

anything earlier than 1982 and some of 82 are made of 95% copper. If the date is 1983 or later, it is made of 97.5% zinc and plated with a thin copper coating.
keys and semi's:
1909 S VDB
1909 S
any mm from 09 to 19 with the exception of a few..check the mintages
22 D (weak D, No D, Die #2 Strong Reverse)
24 D
31 S
