I went to an antique shop today.
They wanted to show me an "INDIAN HEAD SILVER DOLLAR"
it was in a bezel and on a small silver chain.
asking price. $49

I asked to examine the dollar as I had not heard of an Indian head Silver dollar. And wanted to see the year etc.

They picked it up and handed it to me - no care taken to protect the coin in question.
Once I flipped it over the reverse said one ounce silver .999
I told the clerk this was not a Silver dollar but a bullion piece.
He said I must be mistake the owner was a gemologist and he would know.

I said nice but I'm a numismatologist.

I may collect from the darkside,
but it does not mean I am that dumb - watch the replies.

how many people are out there trying to sell items in ignorance.

There is an Indian Dollar put out by one of the Indian tribes, not sure which. You are correct though in that it is not a legal tender dollar coin. It sells in the Sunday papers for around $29.00 and at the major shows for around $10. Most dealers would only pay the silver weight.
