I have developed a disdain for the "bulk" of the packaging. The boxes take up so much room that I removed the coins (in their capsules) for storage and boxed up all of the boxes seperately. My carton of empty boxes wouldn't even fit in my safe.

How do you store your commems? I like to look at them occassionally, so having the coins in a small box allows me to do that....w/o having to search through a big stack of boxes that all look the same.

i think I have five or six commems so I don't have the problem you do yet. but when they start taking up a lot of room I will probably do what you did

How about a coin display case? Since these modern commemorative coins are not expensive, I think they do not need to be in the safe deposit box. I use the display case for my silver bullion coins, including lunar coins. My display case has three layers and was bought from the Littleton Coins.

This to me is a very interesting post. I too have been wondering the same thing. I have 3 or 4 different plastic storage containers full of mint boxed coins, in my safe.
Dollarcoin, I really like your idea. I went to Wizard coins web site and looked at their display/storage cases. I think I like the hard aluminum cases that hold the trays that look something like yours. They also have a tray that is sized for PCGS type slabs. I am thinking they would really look nice by putting them in the 2X2 hard plastic coin holders that wizard has also.
Dollarcoin ... can I ask what the dimensions of your display box, they don't show that info on wizard .. wondering how much space they take up?
Just went back to Wizards site and found the size ..16.25X9.50X3.25

I keep all of the packaging at home, and the coins in their capsules in the safe deposit box. When space is tight, it doesn't make sense to pay rent on a box to store all of that packaging. The downside is that if the packaging gets ruined or lost at home, I've lost a lot of the value of the set. Like has been pointed out several times, the Abraham Lincoln set is composed of coins you can get elsewhere--the added value comes from the packaging.

I ordered a coin case from Wizard coins today. I choose the Lighthouse aluminum 5 drawer case.
I also ordered nine Intercept shield hard 2X2 dollar coin holders (38.1mm). Just nine to see if I like the holders. I plan on putting all my commemorative dollars and proof silver eagles. Silver Eagle 2X2's are not available yet. Should free up a lot of space in my safe, and be a good way to display coins. ... I hope.

I have a nearly complete set of Modern Commemoratives just lacking two of the Olympic coins for the full set of the uncirculated & proof silver and half dollars. I decided early on I wasn't going to keep all the packaging and mine is housed in two Dansco albums. A lot of people will say that's probably stupid but that's the way I want it as part of my coin collection and I really not worried about the resale of the individual coins in their original packaging.
