All,

I had almost forgot about the 2010 American Veterans Disabled for Life Silver Dollar (Feb release) I knew about the 2010 Boy Scouts of America Centennial Commemorative Coin (March release). Looks like 350,000 of each will be released.

I am more interested in the disabled veterans coin than the boy scouts one.

What are your opinions about these two releases and the demand?

Ken

I've read a lot of griping on other coin sites about the Boy Scout coin: not as nice as some of the considered designs, why is there a "girl" on the boy scout coin. I don't know how that coin is going to strike people.

I think the demand for both will be pretty good. I tend to prefer the unc versions for the lower mintage.

The girl is a Venturer, which is a Boy Scout program for both male and female age 14-20.

The Boy Scout commemorative was ruined by PC I guarantee you will not see a guy on a Girl Scout commemorative...

The best design IMO was the 1910 era scout giving a helping hand to a modern scout, also chosen by the CCAC. Then pretty boy Geithner(never a Boy Scout) comes along and once again, we have another ridiculous "all-inclusive diversity" coin(see the 2010 Platinum Eagle).

I love the Veterans Disabled for Life Silver Dollar. I was thinking to purchase a 1996 paralympic coin.

I do like the reverse of the Scout coin. Like most, I am not so happy about the obverse.

There is a $10 surcharge on each American Veterans Disabled for Life commem that will be paid to the Disabled Veterans' LIFE Memorial Foundation for the construction of a memorial in Washington, DC (maximum of $3.5 million).

I like the idea of raising money to benefit disabled vets. I am not crazy about either of the designs 2010 dollars, but I will order both because I am trying to get a complete set, well near complete there are a couple that I just won't buy.
In my experience, sometimes the coin is better looking, once it is in hand compared to just seeing a drawing of the coin on the mint page ... so I will hope for the best. Just like the 1999 Tiffany and company dollar .. was a much better coin once I saw it.

Unless they have only "one per household".....I'll be getting two of the Scout dollars. One for my Nephew and one for me. I hadn't thought about the Uncirculated version......might get one of these too.
Popular design or not.....I think there are A LOT of Scouts, their families, and Scout Leaders across the nation who will be clamoring to acquire one or more of these. Hence, I think there will be a modestly timed "sell out" of these Silver dollars.
I think all of the modern Commemoratives send surcharges from the sale of the coins to benefit whatever it is honoring.
And, though I'm all for the disabled veteran silver dollar...I have to put my money only where I see it as "a must" for my collection due to difficult financial times.....so....sadly....I will not be getting one of these....

I have a set of Modern Commemorates in both uncirculated and proof so I will be buying both versions of these two coins from the mint.
