Wow! What a great set of Cents. I'd love to hear the story behind them.
The only one I question is the first coin's Obverse. It looks scratched/cleaned. The others though look perfect - MS65s in my opinion from what I can see in the photos.
Is that first coin look scratched?

no they have never been cleaned or touched by anyone. The streaks are in the metal. I believe these were made from bad stock that metal was not properly homogenized.

yeah that cent was made like that, it adds value, it called a wood cent because the streaks in the metal make it look like wood

That first coin ROCKS....love the woodgrain on a nice, bright BU cent like that. The others are nice as well.

I was getting ready to say, they call what you are seeing on the first coin, wood grain toning

Its not toning its actually a part of the metals.
I like the BU red coins which exhibit this characteristic, but I love the brown coins, the brown seems to make this more pronounced in appearance.

I think I have a few wooded pennies that have turned brown. I will find them and when I do I will post pictures! Everyone have a great new year! Hope good coins come your way...

Quote: Its not toning its actually a part of the metals. Actually it IS toning. The poor alloy mix causes the two different composition areas to tone differently and at different rates.
