I went through a buddy's box of change yesterday and took out two rolls of dimes one roll of nickles and one roll of pennies. Didn't know the key dates for the larger denominations so just took the best condition from 90' back.
These two dimes were very easy to spot! I remembered seeing something simular in my book but when I looked them up, there is no mention of one and location of the 'P' one the other is not the same. . . . I can try to get more detailed shots but the one is very light sensitive much more so than any penny.
Speaking of pennies, this was the first 70 S I came across. But in all, Ill let you all say whats what. Please?
P.S. Something is telling me a 92 close is close in his box of coins.Just a feeling . . . .

Joe,
Can you be more specifics as to what I need to look for in the dimes? As for the 1970S penny, the shot is fan out on the edges.

I see photos of three completely normal coins.

And if there's question as to which size date the 1970S is...it's large. Common.

The 87P dime I see an interesting looking mark behind Roosevelts neck. looks like some corrosion on the 81P, and the 70S cent I think I see Machine Doubling on the S.

The 1987 P dime appears to be struck from a clashed die. The 81 P looks to have some corrosion at 3:00 that is shaped like a P.

I couldn't see the corroded shape like P for the 81 P if you didn't point that out Conder, nor would I have guessed for the clashed die in the 87 P.

the only thing I can think of is that it appears that the 1981 time has what appears to be a double stamped ear.

The reason the mint marks are in different places is simple. The post 1990 dies have the mint mark placed on the dies from the master die. Pre 1989 dies have the mint mark added by hand. So hand placement can and does vary from die to die. Thus the difference in locations of the mint mark.
