Looks genuine to me.

The rim bruise at 9:00 on the obverse and the reverse damage would drop this one into the VF range. There's also a touch of verdigris present.

I'd say VF30 with nice woodgrain effects. A keeper for sure......

That's a beauty of a coin! Too bad about the reverse damage. The damage was fairly recent from the looks of it, probably a staple or slipped tool. Who ever did it must have cried!

I don't think that's verdigris in the devices, it looks organic to me. I'd do a little conservation on this coin myself. I'd also probably give it the window sill retone on the reverse to try and darken up the damage becuse it's a nice coin.

Oh...and I say an easy VF-30 to 35. However, I think it might get BB with damage.

BadThad, how would you go about conserving it?

I'd do a solvent ladder soak to see if the device grime is removed. Start with water for couple hours, then acetone and finally xylene. If that doesn't work, I'd reverse the process, i.e. xylene, acetone and then water.

Beyond that, it starts to get tricky and if you're not experienced at conservation, it's probably best left alone. I'm seen a lot of people ruin coins by cleaning them instead of conserving them. There's a fine line and once you cross it there's no going back.
