Numismedia price guide shows 1983 P Washington quarters G4 at $2.30? Is this even close to an accurate price? I have been finding them in pocket change fairly often. What gives? Maybe I should buy a lotto ticket.

It very well could be accurate, ironically I was just noticing myself yesterday how 1982-1983 quarters are selling anywhere from $2.00 to $4.00 on ebay for circulated coins. Those two years were not low mintage years, its just that no mint sets were produced in those years so collectors had to pull them out of circulation or rolls to get them for their quarter sets. Thus they are perceived to be scarcer coins. Hope this helps.

Yeah....they're not uncommon in circulation at all....I suppose if you ran across one in exceptional condition I'd save it....but otherwise I'd ignore em'.

The 1982s and 83s are only worth saving in AU and up and yes, they definitely do carry a premium due to the lack of Mint Sets for those two years. The vast majority you see in change will be VF-EF and worth face.

I agree except that I also save those with type "d' reverses even in XF. These are most easily seen in the distance between the right side on the N of UNUM and the eagle's head. It is greater on the type "d".

This appears on all the 1977 to '84 issues except the '82-P and gets easier to see toward the end of the run.

With all circ clads you'll probably want to concentrate on nice even strikes from good dies with the minimum of wear possible. Obviously any rare or scarce variety is collectible in any condition though.
Time don't fly, it bounds and leaps.
