This coin is almost entirely obliterated, but it is possible to make out part of an eagle and the shield within quite clearly.

Is there anyone who can identify this by this photo alone. The reverse is totally obliterated. (The rim is smooth.)

It's hard to say what denomination it might be without knowing the size of the coin, but appears to be the reverse of the Seated or Capped Bust type coinage.

Yes, it's 15/16th of an inch. It's about the size of the current quarter.
