1943-S LWC With "Thick" Mintmark

I recently searched through a dealer's hoard of steel cents and came across this coin. It stood out because the mint mark was noticeably thicker than others. As I'm unfamiliar with Lincolns, I wanted to ask the experts here--is this simple Die Deterioration?

It does look unusual, but my best guess is that this is a punch that saw some wear before being used here. Anything metal used as a punch will flatten out with time. When it does, it gets fatter too. That's the best I can do, sorry.

It's only a possibility. The only thing I can tell you for sure is that it's not a different mintmark style. It's the same typical mintmark style, but is flattened out somehow.
