Hello every one, First pleas pardon me for the long absents from the forum I have been occupied with so much now a days. Well any way I have a Question for you all, Just recently I have decided to buy a 1969 Treasury Department envelop that contains coins in it, And in side the envelop is three pennies two dimes two nickels two quarters and A Half Dollar Silver Kennedy all are dated 1969 some are S mint and some D mint.

My concerns are for the Silver Half Dollar, Now I know that they should be 40% Silver with a visibly copper line on the edge only starting from 1967 up to 1969 AND 1970 I THINK if I'm right on the years if not pleas correct me. Now when I say VISIBLY I really mean you can see the copper content right. OK well is there a 1969d 90% silver content and if so could you explain how one could see or even know that it is 90% silver.

In 1969 no halves were made in Philly, only Denver. The ones in San Fran were for proof sets and were composed of 40% silver, 60% copper just like the D MM Kennedys. So what you have there is a 40% silver half in a proof set from the San Fran mint. Does that clear it up?

Welcome back! First off, you can't always see the copper core in a 40% half dollar. I currently have over 600 of them and there are several that look like a 90% from the edge. The mint was producing 90% silver half dollars up to 1966 (dated 1964). It is pretty unlikely that a 1969 would be struck on a 90% planchet. Weight would tell the difference. (90% are 12.5 grams while 40% are 11.5 grams)

Thanks you two, So I would clearly tell the difference by Weight. Yup Yup Yup, OK but what If ? and I do say WHAT if There was A 90% silver 1969d Kennedy half dollar. Would it change anything at all and would it be out in news making hits at numismatic world.....
