Pictured are two 1/4 real pieces from the Guatemala mint of the Central American States. The first coin has seen a lot of use, but the second coin has been stashed away somehow, leaving it brilliant and AU. :D

The Federal Republic of Central America, known as the United Provinces of Central America in its first year of creation, was a short-lived sovereign state in Central America, which existed from July 1823 to 1840. The republic consisted of the states of Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, and Costa Rica (Panama was still part of Colombia at the time).

Very interesting, and the second is very nice!
That line of volcanoes is a symbol still used on many regional flags.

I don't mind the first coin, worn off by hundreds of human hands.
It has much more character.

I agree with you Turtleoverhead. I love coins that have actually served their purpose, and been used as currency in who knows what transactions throughout history.

But you can't deny that uncirculated coins are lovely, especially if they've made it this long.
