Just curious how most of you purchase your coins. I've come across some decent bargains as of late on the internet, yet I still prefer walking into my local dealer and looking at coins. Yesterday I stopped by a dealer I've been going to for 10+ years, the owner knows my name and immediately brings out some nice morgans for my review. It really is hard to beat that kind of service.

I know how you feel Dog Man. I walk into my coin dealer, he calls me by name and gives me free reign of the store. He makes it a little joke with other customers and says "ah she just looks everywhere and takes her time and I just let her roam around". He gives me deals and always give my change in halfs, Kennedy's, SAC's, SB's and even a really rough 1869 Shield nickel that I have since passed to someone else. I haven't purchased coins over the internet as yet. I'm sure that I will. I've made many, many internet purchases, just not coins. Enjoy the Forums...I sure do!

I prefer going to coin dealer for two reasons. first I can have a closer and really see the coin then I can by a picture online. second reason is I learn alot from the two that I go to reguraly and they are very helpful to me. But with that said since I am collecting Silver Dollar most times I have no choice but to buy offline. the two I go to don't carry most of the ones I am buying. But if they carry something I need I aways go there first.

well since there is no coin dealers around me that I care to do business with (I have tried and they are all hard tails and wont work with you) I do all my coin buying at online auctions. I have bought probably 90% off ebay and the other 10% off of Heritage. I find it rather hard to buy raw coins for this reason also (I ususally end up with others bodybaged coins) so I would love to have a "good" dealers shop to go to for raw undiscovered coins but as of now online will have to do

My dealer keeps an eye out for certain morgans that I might be looking for. But then again, the internet is a valuable tool that lets me buy exactly the specific mintmark and date of the coin that I want, especially since there are probably hundreds of people selling the coin I'm looking for. The downside to this is, like bryan said, it's really hard to buy raw coins for fear of paying money for bodybagged coins.

My "local" (40 miles away) dealer knows me, and my family by name, and there is complete trust between us.
I obtain most of my coins through them.

Since I travel from time to time, I try to buy coins from dealers, flea markets etc. But since my numismatic field is very focused, I have little option but to buy online.
