I am curious what software or services people have found to keep track of their coins. I keep everything on a spreadsheet which works but it really lends itself to a nice database application.

You can do a search "software" here and find several links that will give you some good information. I use CoinManage from Liberty Street-the software is pretty good, support is non-existent.

Subject comes up a real lot. Usually you'll hear Excel is the most commonly used one. Usually it's free if you have Office. Usually you can use it anywhere on Earth too except in China you have to read Chinese.

It seems that all of the software companies have great marketing material and make every program look great. Obviously there is a large component of personal preference in liking one program over another.
Maybe the question I should ask is "is there any software which people were not happy with and why? What feature were they missing or why were they unpleasant?

I use a spreadsheet as well, have for years. If you do not have Excel (which is not free) then I highly recommend the OpenOffice.org. This is what I use, it is free for personal use, and is compatible with Excel.

For my world collection I use Access which generates Excel sheets with my collection and with the doubles lists. But this part of my collection hasn't been moving for a couple of year. For my Franch francs collection, I use a simple excel sheet which contains catalogue number year and mint mark as well as my grade.

I love Excel. I think I started with the free Microsoft program (can't remember the name) in about 1996. Since I began getting my Office through my universities I've been carrying it forward, it is now in Excel 2007. Excel allows for almost everything you would want, except pictures. My collection is too big for pictures so this isn't an issue. Did I say that I love Excel?

Like many people here I also use Excel. I have separate spreadsheets for my coins (now 10,500+) and one for my banknotes (1,969 and counting down to my next immeadiate target of 2,000). I did try to scan in my coins and create links on the spreadsheet to them but it's very tedious work and I eventually gave up. I do however have scans of all my banknotes and have a hyperlink from my spreadsheet to the relevant country picture file. It's really quick and easy and I can check what I already have in my collection on the computer when I'm away from home.

I collect both coins and paper money. I use Exact Change to track both collections.

I've seen some screenshots for CoinManage. Are the pictures of the coins provided with the software for comparison? And can you store pics of your own coins in there, too?
