Just acquired two of the same (for the equivalent of a few cents each).
The design on the reverse is based on KM#439-441 20 centavos but with the word 'COPIA' where the word CENTAVOS and date should be. I assume that these are copies. The design on the obverse is somewhat similar to the original but the eagle faces right!.
Is this play money, produced for training purposes or what? Any thoughts appreciated.

Perhaps training coins for bank tellers, Post Office employees or similar?

Other than that, play money, perhaps?

Is it made of bronze just like the genuine coins are, or plastic?

I'd assume it was play money, perhaps used with some kind of board/card game.

Interesting - I have one of these (it's bronze), but it has been ground down and the reverse of a Kennedy half-dollar attached. Odd.

There's something intriguing about this piece--because it looks to be made inside Mexico for use there.

Yes they are bronze, same size as original 28.5mm. Weight 6.7 to 6.9 grammes.

I will have to check my coins to get a good view of these. I know that there was a change in the design, while Ilived in Mexico, but that was many years ago. I'll comment later re these two. I have never seen any Mexican coin used as "play money". I'm sure there will be other comments on these.

I checkrd my 20 centavos coins, and ALL have the eagle facing LEFT. Grom the early '40's the small eagle was normal. Then in the '60's, it changed to a large eagle.
Hope this helps.

Very interesting. I've seen the real coins before but I've never seen that.
