try a dilute nitric acid solution, dab on the last digit with a toothpic, but be cautious, this is dangerous stuff !

Try one of those metal engraving tools and add your own dates.

If you do that do it in a closet in the dark and scrub the coin well before you take it out into the light. Silver Nitrate is light sensitive and it will turn dead black upon exposure to the light if you don't get it all scrubbed off the coin.

using nitric acid in an enclosed area could be lethal. silver nitrate is not the same as nitric acid. the fumes from nitric acid will (not may) destroy lung tissue. and dont get it on your skin. it will kill skin on contact. (probably would work great for warts )!

Yes you will have to worry about the fumes from the nitric acid and the reaction, and you will also have to get the silver nitrate off the coin to keep it from turning black once it is exposed to the light.

after applying the acid you might wash with pop.......believe it or not its a great neutralizer of battery acid.....sulfuric I believe.....Its cheap and you can drink it.....if its coke just don't leave any nails in it over night
