Every now and then my bank has customer-wrapped rolls of nickels ..... and I take a chance on these in hopes of a major score from the old-time cookie jar being emptied. Every now and then it pays off ...... like the 9 rolls of BU '62, '63 and '64 Jefferson's I scored a while back. Lately however ..... I have been noticing my customer-wrapped rolls have been coming up 'short' of total coins ....... so I kept track roll-by-roll of the $20 in nickels I searched through last night ..... Here is what I found .... 1. I ended up 'short' 11 nickels total in 10 rolls 2. There were only 2 rolls with a full 40 nickels 3. I did find 3 dimes! 4. Six (6) US cents were used as filler coins 5. Also came across two foreign coins. At the end-of-the-day ....... adding up the face value I was a loser by only 19 cents ...... plus whatever value the foreign coins might have. Is anybody else out there seeing this ...... customer-rolls being short of the proper amount and 'filled' with other stuff? Let us know. David

Same here but not as bad, went through $5 of pennies out of the $20 I bought at the back; threw 2 in the trash as being so corroded that I wasn't sure it was a penny! Got one balboa something from panama the size of a penny, and a lot of coins that looked like road kill from the grocery store parking lot. Did get 3 cull wheaties, one '60 small date, and about 4 S-mint of common value. Sorted the copper and had about 25. Got one bu64-d in the mix.

I haven't really noticed it with nickels. Although I have found several rolls with a dime in it (as well as the 40 nickels). I have on several occasions been shorted with customer wrapped half dollars. (one roll was short 3 coins...I usually look at the rolls when I get them) But the bank was kind enough to return my $1.50. But several times I find I am short 1 coin in a roll. One time I picked up 10 rolls and 6 were short 1 coin for a loss of $3.00. It was an obvious dump because all the rolls were marked. I guess not all roll searchers have ethics!

I ran into a spell a few weeks back with cust wrapped rolls being short. I kept track for about 50 rolls and ended up down $.21. This included making up for some of the deficit with dimes! Who can figure?
My CU manager told me they were having problems with a couple of guys who were rolling at home with "cheap" coin counters. Those were the rolls that were usually short. It was the hand-counted rolls (usually with the customer's address written on it) that were usually dead on.

In my last brinks box I've come up a few cents short. I get a lot of Canadians though. At least 1 per roll. Kind of annoying..

see the thing is if I'm searching for silver or pre 1959s I dump out the roll pull what I like and from a pile of spare nickels I have il replace the once I took and roll it back up. So even if the roll is short its not my loss I just give it right back to the bank never count to see if its short

Bought 200.00 worth of quarters last week and noticed it was pretty easy for someone to put a 2007 nickel for a quarter place. If you wern't searching ot would be easy to sneak by.

I prefer the customer rolls, and have noticed a lot more canadian in them now (2 hrs south of the border) then before. a few other foreigns too. panamas dimes and halfs are the same thing as ours, philippine dimes too, cant forget the bahamas change as well. as for being short, its just been in the penny rolls. I find nickel rolls up a nickel or two

Guess I wouldn't know if it did happen. I just dump a bunch of rolls out at one time. Sort them and the ones I don't want go to a plastic container which I dump off in a CoinStar machine. Feel sure my loss at the CoinStar machine is greater than short rolls. Did win the bid on a roll of 1939 wheat cents. Picture showed a roll with 1939 wrote on it. It was short 2.

This happens to me constantly!
I also enjoy getting customer rolls occasionally, for the same reason that nickelsearcher does. But lately, instead of just replacing what I find from a replacement pile and shoving the coins back into the wrapper for a trip to the dump bank, I have found myself having to count the roll. I have had similar results as some of you above; dimes here and there, occasional cents, and way more short rolls than there should be!
