I am joining my son this week to Las Vegas for a tournament he is entering, I am the fatherly support system.

I would like to know if there are any places of Numismatic interest anyone might suggest to see, I already plan, on his off time, to visit some pawn shops for the viewing of some coinage.

I have never been there before and will be staying at some wild, crazy hotel, amusement rides on the roof, 2500feet up in the air and hanging over the edge for a "thrill", LOL, I was hoping for some suggestions from others who have been there and have some shops they might suggest for the known large inventory of coinage.

I am doing other things, just thought I would put this idea out there to see what comes back, thanks to all, be well, Mike....

Mike, are you staying at the Stratosphere?!?!?

I'm no help with places of Numismatic interest, but I can offer some other interests.

The fountains at the Bellagio are a "must-see" in the evening.

"TREVI"... It's an Italian restaurant inside Cesars Palace. Amazing food!

The strangest elevator ride in the world is inside the Luxor...(I think they call it an "inclinator"...the elevator shaft takes you upwards...and sideways)

I haven't visited there in almost 3 years...but I do remember some of the casinos in "old town" that still had slot machines that would "pay out" with halves, and dollar coins. Some used to give you 90% silver tokens.

Best bit of advice I can give you is to bring your camera, and enjoy yourself! Have fun...

Scott

I don't know what your tastes are, but if you're going to have a rental car, drive out to the Hoover dam and take the tour including the museum. It's awesome and well worth the time and effort. From a historical standpoint, it's one of the greatest achievements of the 20th century.

You can always stop in to Binions casino (on Fremont street-a sight all by itself) and have your pic taken with the million dollars!

Stratosphere, IT IS.
I never leave home with out my camera, well I have it most of the time( another hobby).

The Hoover Dam sounds like a must see, I have always been amazed by the footage on the history channel, this would be great, schedule allowing!!

What is the name of the "casino" that has all of those Morgan and Peace dollars embedded into the bar and walls? picture the Vams in that building!

There is a coin shop in Caeser's Palace that is absolutely hilarious. The prices are SO high for completely common stuff. I asked the guy why the prices were so high, he said it was because the coins all came with a "certificate of authenticity". Check it out, then walk out and do the buffet over there, much better use of the money.

My favorite - hop on the Deuce (double decker bus), get on the second level as close to the front as possible, and ride from the Stratosphere down to Freemont Street for the light show, then all the way back down the strip. Very cost effective and fun way to see the Strip, especially if you get the day pass.

PS- The Stratosphere is a good walk from other casino's - be very aware of your surroundings after dark or better yet take a cab.

Mikefromcanada, Welcome to the family, I appreciate your input, I have rented a car, but the thought of taking that double decker down the strip, with camera in hand sounds like some sweet sights, thanks for the idea, best of luck, enjoy the knowledge/people here, they are kind, nice, experienced, and more than willing to share their opinions, Mike...
