Sorry, it will not grade. However, I'd still send it to ANACS (cheapest) and get it slabbed for authentication.

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but the mintmark looks suspect to me. The serifs don't look like they are vertically parallel like they are supposed to be. The left edge of the mintmark is in line with the left edge of the O in the date, which according to the PCGS article in the link below, would indicate a mintmark position number 4. The mintmark looks to be too high. The top of the S looks like it is nearly in line with the bottoms of both 9's in the date.

Here is the link. Great article:

If I'm wrong, please correct me.

I tend to be suspicious of this coin, too. Like cwb, the mint mark seems wrong. I would love to get this coin under the scope.

It definately looks suspect to me too. However, the picture is just too poor for judge positively. That's why I suggest ANACS for authentication, it's worth the small price IMO.

Will this coin not grad because of the hits in the left of the obverse?

We call that "damage", not "hits", there's a difference. And, yes, the major TPG's don't grade damaged coins.

Thanks for every body's input.

I happened to read that PCGS article recently, I'm curious how my 1909-S VDB looks like. I digged this one out that I bought while ago on ebay. Yes, I have same feeling as you guys...very sad...

Im thinking if its worth to send out for authentication. I have already contacted the seller, hope its not too late...

How long ago did you buy it on ebay? Did you use PayPal or a credit card to pay for it?

If the coin is not genuine and you paid with PayPal or a credit card, you may have recourse provided you meet the time deadlines.

If you used PayPal, you have 45 days to file a Significantly Not As Described (SNAD) dispute.

If you used a credit card, you'll have to check with your credit card company as to how long you have to dispute a transaction.

Let me count how long I bought it...45 days...145 days....245 days...Sorry I bought it last May. The seller has good reputation on ebay, thats why I try to contact him, we MAY figure out a solution...?

Good link BadThad, I need to read all of these earlier...

Well...since it has been that long, that means a PayPal claim is out of the question.

It is certainly worth a shot to contact the seller. Let us know if you get any response.

I don't know about the others, but the 1914-D looks suspicious to me as well. Notice how the shape of the 9 looks different than the 9's on the other coins. The tail of the 9 appears to be nearly straight while the others are more curved.

The letters on the 1911-S look really thick, which can be a sign of a counterfeit. At least in the pictures, they are noticeably thicker than the letters on the 1909-S and the 1931-S.

The 1909-S looks good to me. In fact it is a really nice example.

Good eye swb8539...but I dont think anything wrong, I found an ANACS slabbed AG3 1914-D on ebay that is exactly same with more straight 9 tail.
