I find myself always going back to the CCF Grading Scales in our US Coin Facts under the Navigation bar on the left.
Draped Bust Half Dollar General Grading StandardsAG3 Almost Good - Clear enough to identify.
G4 Good - Date and letters sufficient to be readable. Main devices outlined, but lack details.
VG8 Very Good - Major details discernible. Letters well formed but worn.
F12 Fine - Hair ends distinguishable. Top hairlines show, but otherwise worn smooth.
VF20 Very Fine - Right side of drapery slightly worn. Left side to curls is smooth.
EF40 Extremely Fine - All lines in drapery on bust will show distinctly around to hair curls.
AU50 About Uncirculated - Slight trace of wear on cheek, hair, and shoulder.
Going from the above I say VG-10.
I can't say the hair ends are distinguishable but I can see some of the top hair lines..
Just FYI: The
RedBook says the 1806 Knobbed 6 with Large Stars (branch through claw on the reverse) all have traces of overdate (from 1805). I don't really see them on this example...
I'll post a blow-up of the date.
