Washington $ Smooth Edge Value? - Coin Community Forum

regularguy Valued Member United States 187 Posts	Posted 02/06/2010 6:10 pm I was at a local coin dealer today, and asked what new coins found their way to his shop. He showed me three Washington dollars with no edge lettering. I looked at them carefully and saw no tampering of the edge. He said that the man that brought them in got them from a roll. The coins were starting to tarnish but they were definitely the real thing. I was very tempted to buy them but he was reluctant to give me a firm price. What would they be worth? I looked on the net and came across a wide range of prices. I also found information that there may be more coins like this that originally thought. Any ideas, thoughts or comments? biokemist6 Bedrock of the Community United States 12437 Posts	Posted 02/06/2010 6:17 pm Certified MS-64 examples can be purchased for about $75 so I would say about $50 would be reasonable for a raw coin taking into account that it may not grade 64 and that it is beginning to tarnish. You could say that I am really chomping at the bit to buy these Washington dollars. The main thing is that I don't want to over pay for them, especially if more are found in the future and the price does come down. Will let you know what I find out. Report this Post to the Staff

urbnlgnd Valued Member United States 55 Posts	Posted 02/07/2010 10:19 pm I paid a premium for mine (closer to $100) graded PCGS MS-64 shorty after they came out.They have been declining in value since. On the other hand,It seems the John Adams double edge has increased in value since my purchase. I would probably offer him $30 each since they are starting to tarnish, but in my opinion if you really want a keeper,I would spend a bit more and find one between $50 - 75 graded. I examined them again and am satisfied that they are the real deal. I think that I will get one. This opportunity to buy one this easily with out ordering or waiting may not come along again soon.
