Here's a challenge for you gold collectors. This coin is in an ICG slab. What grade do you think ICG gave it, and what grade do you think it deserves?

from what I see I would give it an MS-63. I bet ICG gave it a MS-64/65?

I had an ICG MS61 that was at least 2 grades behind this one. Nice looking coin. nlp

I would be surprised if this is not graded MS. I could be wrong, though. What'd you pay for it? Might want to cross over to PCGS, its a terrific and high end coin! I wish I could afford the coins you get, but I'm getting there I guess...

I was thinking MS-62 but these gold coins are definitely not my forte

63 was my first thought. Could be 64 if it had more luster.

I just love this coin. I would certainly consider crossing over to pcgs or ngc as others have suggested.

Thanks for the opinions. I agree that a lack of luster on the obverse especially is grade-limiting. Years ago I sent it in to PCGS for crossover. They returned it in the original ICG holder with no comment, meaning they didn't consider it worthy of a PCGS MS-61 grade. Maybe I should try it again.....

Yeah it looked better in the other photos, I still think it should grade at least MS-62, and is solid for MS-63 due to the lack of marks. They're probably being really strict on it because it is such a high value coin. You should honestly keep trying until you get it in a 63 holder (at least 10 times) because of the price difference, at least if you plan to sell it. Thats pretty amusing that they didn't want to even put it in a 61 holder, I'd have a tough time seeing this as a 58...

It looks like ICG "market-graded" it a 61 and PCGS must have thought it was AU.
A true MS61 is pretty beat up, and that coin is not beat up, so my guess is it's really a 58.

The only areas I see that could go as rubs are in Miss Liberty's hair bun (center) and the hair above her ear.

Yeah I guess this shows that TPG's are fickle, I see what you mean but I see this so much on higher unc coins that it just occured to me that its the way the light hits it or something.
