VG-10 seems like a good grade for this coin.

Thanks for everyone's input and grades. I really do appreciate it! As mentioned in the inital post, I used a scanner to take an image of the coin. I have heard many views within the forum, and most seem to agree that using a camera versus a scanner gives better results. Based on the additional time that I have taken experimenting with my camera, I must concur. I have attached side-by-side photos of the same coin, the first (and original) image being scanned, and the new image having been taken by camera. Based on this, feedback and comments are again most appreciated. I would be most curious if having looked at the new image, whether the coin would grade better? Thanks, kindly.

The camera images reveal more of the light hairlines and tiny pockmarks present on the coin. I think the scanner photos are more flattering since they show a more natural brown-copper color and don't emphasize the surface marks. However, they also show the greenish reverse patina more clearly.
Gradewise, I think this is better than VG-10. Obviously there is wear over all high points but some star radials are still present and Liberty's major hair detail is still visible. Unless we are "net grading" because of the surface marks and/or possible light corrosion I think this is a F-15 or even VF-20 coin.
I wonder if some type of treatment like that Verdi-Gone product should be applied to prevent any progression of copper corrosion. It would be a shame if the green patina began to develop into surface pitting.

on the camera shots what type of lighting are you using/ it seems a little strong which is why it may be exaggerating the marks and messing with the color. Well I guess I should have asked if the photo with camera is a good representation of color or not before I made that comment

Bryan, the camera photo is a rough representative of coin color, with a bit too much lighting. I have been experimenting with the camera's built-in camera flash in addition to incandescent lighting. Up till recently I've been using a scanner; my foray into using a camera with macro for coin photos is recent. To address this, I am awaiting delivery of an Adorama Copy Stand - adjustable from 6" to 12", with lighting.
