One of my favorite errors is this buffalo that is struck thru wood.

Does the mint still have some wood parts laying around that get struck into the coin?

When is the last time the mint made this kind of error?

Do you have any coins struck thru wood and what years are they?

I just found a dateless Buffalo in my stash with a similar gouge on it. There is actually one on both sides of the coin, in line with each other. I was wondering what may have caused that damage.

That's interesting ANACS says that's wood. I have some cents like that and always wondered what that struck-through debris was.

I read somewhere about coins being struck under a shop towel, rag or something used by maintenance. Anyone aware of this? I have laid aside some cent's with similar marking's waiting to confirm this.

I found an LMC the other night that looked like it had been struck through a piece of wire. I haven't looked at it closely. Just set it aside until I get more time. That's the only stuck-through piece that I've seen.

is there still some wood stuck in the metal or something/ I don't see how ANACS could say with certainty that it was struck through wood unless there is some particles of wood somewhere in the metal

i took some really good close up pics of the strike thru, but the pictures are bigger than the 90Kb file-limit size this site allows when I click on 'Add Image' icon below this box. any tips? (yes, I'm a noob on here).

I don't know if you can do this in your photo-suite but if you can figure out the dimensions of the image just proportionately reduce same as follows. Supposing it's 1600px X 1200px. Copy the image and paste it to a blank file that's, for example, 1200px X 900px, or even 800px X 600px. If you can reduce the image dimensions, you can correspondingly reduce the file size. I just did a "properties" on your image in the slab and I can see it's a JPEG, at 398px X 400px, file size, 17.54 KB (17956 bytes). Get it down to around there and it should get in under the limit, same way. Does that make sense?
