I ordered a roll of the new 50c from the mint,i got the package on Monday. One end of the roll was unrolled,it had just folded once, the end coin also had a strange circular gouge.
I emailed the mint and to my suprise they responded with this,
"As part of our quality control process we have identified a quality issue with the rolled 50c Australia Day coin. Rolls will be re-rolled to our required standard so please return your rolled 50c Australia coins and the Mint will replace them at no charge."
I don't know why they got sent in the first place, the defect was so obvious.
I donno if its worth keeping,I just see it as a damaged roll, what do you guys think?

Pff I reckon it's post-mint damage and therefore will drop the value. Can't believe how rolling the coins can be so difficult when it's done many years ago without much problem.

Quite possible, but they were bought from the mint ,unless they store them at another location. Also they were sent registered post,I can't see why auspost would open it.
I don't think it would of happened in transit because they were tightly packed.
Then theres the mints reply...
Anyone else ordered any and had a hassel?

I bought a RAM roll from my local coin store and it is very loose on both ends. I'll be opening the roll, so I'm not too worried about it.
life is a mystery to be lived not a problem to be solved

I was in my local coin shop and the guy there had a few on his shelf he had ordered for some customers,i could see 3,all with open ends, exactly like mine.
The mint say they will accept returns, and reroll the coins. So does that mean they just stick the damaged coins in the middle of the roll?
