hopefully I will not draw too many flames here but I'm a little unclear on the 50 posts before you can buy or sell rule. I'm not fighting it, just looking for a small clairification. When I read it, I assumed it was posting a buy or sell topic but I see in another thread that someone said it was buying or selling at all. So my questions is, can I buy something someone has posted for sale prior to my 50 posts? I know I cannot offer for sale or post a want list but can I respond to a post?

thanks for the clarification

You shouldn't even be able to access the forums for buy/sell/trade/live auction until you reach 50 posts. It isn't difficult to do.

No. The rule states (emphasis is mine):

You must have at least 50 quality* posts and have been a member for at least 14 days to post anything involving buying, selling, or trading. This applies to any forum at all, not just the Buy/Sell/Trade forums. Established members may not make any reference to a new member under 50 posts involving buying, selling or trading.

Since the rule applies to the entire Community, not just the B/S/T forums, I see no need to block access to them. I think it is nice that new members can at least look at the B/S/T area. They are even welcome to post if they have relative information to offer.

so I've violated the rule by asking the question? Wow, that was certainly not my intention. I apologize

Very technically, yes, but in my opinion, no, you did not. Asking a question about the specific rule is okay, because you needed help clarifying it.

I don't think you broke the rule by asking the question. The rule is to prevent unqualified people from talking about buying/selling/trading in threads besides the appropriate forum in an attempt to circumvent the rule.

I have seen people post about having a bunch of extras they want to sell in the future in an attempt to solicit offers. I'm pretty sure that's the type behavior the rule is meant to prevent.

That is exactly the type of behaviour (some call it a fishing expedition) that it is intended to prevent.

well I'm not fishing that's for sure. I don't think anything I have would amount to much anyway. I was really looking for what might be available to fill in my OFEC collection. It is getting harder and harder to find some countries and if the chance came up in the buy/sell forums, I wanted to know if I could. I can't so I'll wait. I'm good with that.
thanks again.

Just so you know...

You have been here the 14 days. All you need is 33 more quality posts (In my opinion, I do not see any 'fluff' in your first 17 posts).

That said, you are doing a good job. Keep sharing and asking questions! If you see anything for sale, just make a note of it. Not everything sells, so it just might be there waiting on you when the time comes.
