I have about 80 GSA CC's they are nice. But there are many of non CC's that are very valuable and more so the just a CC mint mark type coin. I want the type of VAM on your posting just not that one.

If you are collecting for the resale value (ONLY) make sure it is a (4) or (5) on the (I) scale "Interest" you can have something rare, but if know one whats it then the value will be lower.

If you are collecting because you truly like something "get what makes you happy" The real full is when the two come together!

I dunno if I'd be so quick to pronounce that coin as cleaned. I've seen a lot of Morgans with vertical die polishing marks, especially '78's and '79's, like so:

Is-This-A-VAM-18?

And, although ANACS has 40-some of this VAM in AU, they've only graded one in Mint State. I might have to risk a few bucks on that chance, if the coin were mine.

now that explains why I've seen so many of these looking like that.....I just assumed they were all cleaned, and have passed some of them up for that reason. It's just so tough when you aren't looking at the coin in person, ya know? I'm so used to using my loupe that it's tough to spend the $$ on an uncertified coin of decent value without seeing it better. Seen too many coins that are passed of as BU when they are really between 53-58....and overgrading is rampant on ebay.

When I am buying raw coins, I prefer to see them in hand. This way I can tell or not tell if they have been cleaned. I am old school in that I believe once a problem coin, always a problem coin.

I once read (although I cannot quote the source) that likely 70% of raw coins sold on the Internet are problem coins of one type or another. Coins that have been cleaned, over dipped, whizzed, counterfeit, tampered with, improperly stored and artificially toned.
