Dime Roll Searching

The roll I found 6 silver in was machine wrapped.

I picked up a box of dimes to see if my luck would hold. Only one 1954 Roosevelt out of 25,000 coins. I did manage to almost complete two sets of clad dimes. I have two P from 1965-2010 and two D from 69 to 2011. I'm still missing D and P for 2009 and 2011.

BTW, I know proofs have been an S mint since 1968. How do you know if earlier coins are really nice circulation coins or proof strikes?

What do you mean by "mirror field"? Do the 1934-1965 proof strikes have a different field than business strikes or is the field just in better condition due the the care taken in the proof minting process?

I don't have any proof dimes to compare to new business strikes but I do have Presidential dollars to compare. The coins look identical to me except the proof is shinier and does have a "mirror" like field. Of course that is comparing a proof straight from the mint to a business strike straight from a roll. How do you tell the difference after 50 years of clanking around in circulation?

Hey all I usually do brinks for dime roll searching and pull about 1 a box average for about the last two years. However recently I have been through 10 boxes and found nothing. I am wondering if anyone else has had this issue, like are they (as in the last month now pulling the silver out with a new machine). Dimes would be the easiest denomination to do because of the weight diffrence.

Picked up 4 rolls of dimes today at my local liquor store and found a 63 and a 64 in great shape. Seems like I find a lot more keepers at this store than in boxes from any bank and I always just get a couple rolls. The middle eastern guy thinks I'm crazy for going in there and getting rolls from him to "look through"
People say that they average about 1 silver dime/nickel per box but it seems to me that I get a silver about every 10 rolls there. Strange but keeps me happy :)

I've seen people roll out of liquor stores.

Im really not sure about where they get their rolls. Some look to be from the bank and some look like cwr. Sometimes they are low so they wont sell me any. Usually I will reroll them when I'm done and put a mark on the outside so I know if I have searched that roll already before returning them. There is only one bank in my small town and they only have the N.F. String and sons that don't really give me much.
