remember to befriend tellers,

i made my dime dump and struck you a convo with the tellers..

she mentioned that the may not have space in her vault, because someone dumped 3k worth of coins. I immidiately thought " must be some other coin hunter"..

but then she said, her kids help bring the coins in and some were on old cigar boxes! I must have been sleeping still because when I left I told me wife about it. she was like., GO BAACK! well, that was Saturday. Lets hope they are still in the vault today!

oh...forgot to ask: has anybody tried to determine whether a roll might have silvers by weighing them? it would save a lot of time if you could somehow.

we're all moving right along with the dimes!
I'm going on a weekend camping trip so I'm just dumping 800 worth of nickels and dimes at a few banks
not getting anything out unless they have halves

So I would love to know where or what banks you all have been lucky enough to find that don't require large quantities of dimes or other denominations to be rolled?

yeah wouldn't we all. seems the best way to go if you can't find one like that is to make sure you only search the brinks ones.

I can't find a bank that will take wrapped rolls, so if I find a box of solid 2010 or a brinks box, I have to unroll the whole thing and run it through the coin counter. Those brinks rolls are great for finding but crap for unrolling!

three boxes today:

64
62 proof
52

which leads me to the question:

I've found a 62 proof in circulation...how can I tell if it's fake? it just seems so odd.

Its not odd and no one would fake that year as it is not worth it. Some one broke it out of a mint set, or cashed in grampa's collection. I've found over 100 proofs in circ. of all denominations, they are rare but not unheard of.

Re: weighing dime rolls

Clad = 2.27g
Silver = 2.5

Clad roll = 113.5
Roll with one silver = 113.73g

The difference is so small that you might be thrown off by the wrapper alone. So you'd need to know what each wrapper weighs (unless they're all the same). If there was a difference of more than a gram it might be feasible. But throw in a pesky Canadian dime (2.07g) and your calculations are in the garbage.

Canadian dimes:
Nickel: 2.07g
Silver: 2.33g

all-Nickel roll: 103.5g
Nickel roll with one silver: 103.76g

Good luck!

For dime roll weighing... in short you cant do it.

Reason is the numbers libertad listed are for new coins. Weight some of your silvers, and some of your clads and you will see that the variances in them are alot. You can use weight on one coin... but the law of averages takes over when you do 50 of them...

This week's box was a skunk. If my next box is a snoozer, I think I'll switch to cents for awhile.
