i should add if and when I get boxes which is rare because for ME boxes are skunks.. you have to get to the dimes before they get shipped off. I find that the banks I go to, the tellers are not permitted to look through the customer rolls. this is true because I find pennies pesos and other crap. but I also find the silver. so I encourage you all to go for the customer rolls. not to mention I am hearing a lot of packaging companies are finding ways to extract the silver from the sorters. now true or not, maybe I'm paranoid because I can never find any silver in the boxes. I HAVE however found a few in the clear wrapped coins.

OH WELL~ I will keep trying, because if I just sat and cried over pointless work nothing would get done.

congrats on the S mint 1947 it is one of the dimes I have yet to find
the only S mint silver dime I have found is a 1953
the reason for the lack of S mints silver dimes could be due to the fact that the last s mint was made in 1955
the older the coin the more rare it is
for instance I have only one hole to fill from 1956-1964 it is the 1958
from 1946-1955 I have 16 holes
anyways I got back from vacation so I got back onto the coin wagon with a box of dimes and one of quarters
1 silver piece from the dimes
1961 D
not a hole filler but its not a skunk either
1 2009 P
1 2009 D
3 1969

Also some posters that seem to "find" mountains of silver on a consistent basis- lets just say I wonder about those posts...

That isn't to say once in a while you will hit the lotto (find a box with 5 or ten silver coins) I never have, but the law of averages say they have to be out there. Boxes like that have to be exceedingly rare- rarer than some people claim to find them anyway.

I go through one box a week and consistently find silver
on average probably 3 silver pieces per box of dimes. I have found 5 silvers in many boxes, and I think my most ever was 6. There is no reason to lie about these things, and everyone's averages will be different based on where they are located in the country. To call people out as liars because they find more silver then you is ridiculous. Also I get skunked maybe 1 in 10 boxes and that box for me is usually clear brinks rolls. A few weeks ago however I found a 1925 merc and a silver roosie in a clear wrapped box. Sorry your luck sucks, but others that find things might not be liars, but might just be in a better area to find the older coins.

Exactly , plus you can be doing something wrong ! Everyone have his own tech or way of searching , ones is better than other so just try to change something in your search and seek for better ways , different banks etc and you ll see the results if not .. Oh well ..

3 to 5x silver coins per half box is what I meant.
If you get three silver dimes per box, good for you, I don't and neither do many other roll searchers.

I do think many posters (maybe more on the .50 cent coins)lie about how often they find silver though.

Maybe lie is too harsh a word, lets use exaggerate.

Also, some people used to find 5 or 10 silver coins 2 or 3 years ago and they expect the ratio has remained static.
Ask anyone who has recently begun to hunt and you will see that their averages are much lower.
5 or ten a box even one year ago will no longer happen, since then silver exploded in price and a lot of people jumped on the coin hunting bandwagon. The average finds even from a year ago have declined sharply. I've read from a bunch of hunters that have been in the game for years and they are hanging it up or about to because the recent hunts have been anemic.

I only started 2 years ago and haven't noticed a decrease in silver, or a decrease in copper for that matter
I think the stuff will always be out there but others have different views and see different things
will the numbers go down? Sure it only makes sense, but are they dropping at these crazy rates people claim? I don't see it. I don't hoard copper but it seems to me the coins are still in the rolls. I search a very broad group of coins. Usually a box of each pennies, nickels, dimes, quarters, halves a week. I pick them all up from one bank, and then ditch them before the next weeks pick up date. The numbers I pull from each box each week remain on the same curve. Sometimes you do get a skunk, and sometimes you do get a great pull but its been the same for me since I have started. I plan on searching until I am sick of it

My average on dimes is also about 1 per $100. For the last year or so, I've only searched cwr, because I just started re-wrapping dimes, (for the first time in 3 years,) and it's really not all that bad. I've also found partial silver dime rolls searching cwr.
