I just started to keep a pile of silver and my SLQ set, as before I would always sell silver to get more SLQ's. I finally learned to keep them separate and most likely will not sell my silver anytime soon, which is why it would be good for me if the price of silver dropped. Just curious as to if anyone here ws doing the same thing.

I collect coins, not metal. So no Silver bars or anything not a coin.

I am a hoarder & have a pessimistic view of the future value of US dollar; Silver will always have value.

Not sure about stacking it...I roll hunt halves regularly and pile the silver until I have a reasonable amount to sell, than I use the proceeds to purchase another coin for the collection.

I too roll search halves, but I only sell off 25% of my finds. That 25% of selling funds my coin hobby. I've sold a little over $500 in 2010, with plans to list a little more this weekend.
Silver is back over $17 - which is nice to see.

Dreamstones and afcop13: Wow...this is a very brilliant way of coin collecting - a self sustain hobby. I guess that I need to do this, too. I already spent this year budget's on coins and perhaps, next year's. However, I got several nice dollar coins.

I only "stock" and "hoard" silver (coins) ......never sold a coin....don't ever want to.... at least until I'm in my late 60's. So, I hope Silver tanks for about 25 - 30 years, and then skyrockets to $74.00 an Oz. !! ...... ...... Then I can get the wheelbarrows out to start taking in all of my silver to the bank !

I too am increasingly pessimistic on the USD and for that reason, hoard silver. Anything shipped to me at current melt, and I am a buyer.

I tend to buy Morgans just above the 'common date' range, as 'numismatic bullion'. Ex: $40 Morgans, instead of $20 common-dates. If silver tanks, they'd still have some collector premium. (unlike common A.S.E.'s, silver bars/rounds, etc.) If silver goes above $50/oz., then I'll have a lot of slightly better date/mintmark Morgans acquired for what would by then be 'melt value'. (at $50/oz, common date Morgans would be worth $38.67!) This is a 'hedge bet' strategy, playing on both numismatic and bullion values. The Morgans I buy can still benefit from an increase in bullion value. If I bought an 1893-S, its bullion value doesn't even enter into the equation! ( although, it would still be a high value coin even if space aliens handed out free silver bars to all U.S. citizens!) The best silver is still (of course) any 'junk silver' you're lucky enough to get for face value!

I stack silver and try to hedge my investment when possible by buying a bullion coin with numismatic potential. When it comes to the numismatic side of the coin, so to speak, I consider myself a newbie, despite collecting a fair amount of coins as a youngster. I'm trying to learn.

And then WHAT? Just because you get into the 60's you know that is still young or at least to me. I wonder what the Lone Ranger would be doing with all his Silver bullets today? And there really should be a lot more warewolves around since it takes Silver to kill them you know.

You know you're a 'Silver Bug' when you watch "Underworld", and you smile when the silver bullets drop from a shot 'Lycan' (werewolf), because the spent casings make the correct silver 'ping' sounds when they hit the hard floor. Yes, the Lone Ranger and the werewolf-hunting vampires in "Underworld" would find firing silver bullets to be a costly habit nowadays!

I love reading these replies. I plan to keep buying as much "junk" silver as I can as well, I've landed some pretty decent lots. Example, a lot of nickels I plucked last week had 40 War Nickels in it along with 42 Buffs and 1 V nickel. I paid $25 for the whole shebang. Melt alone is over that on just the war nicks. I search $500 in halves a week. Will do so from here forward along with buying other loose or customer rolls when I hit other banks.

I stack 90% silver and try to concentrate on halves; they always carry a slight premium over dimes and quarters. Been doing it for about 3 years now. Just sold $200 face in 40% halves, only because they take up too much space, and I was able to get almost $2.50 ea at a show. Used the profit to buy 3 rolls of walkers and several nice bust and Seated halves for the collection.
When I listen to LED ZEPPELIN...so do my neighbors... Roll hunting since '77 Dirt fishing since '72
