Need some opinions on where to sell a 13 coin Morgan CC set. I want to bypass the dealers and get to the collectors only. I would like to break even,(at the worst) and will not consider wholesale selling prices. What would ya all do?

I would find a local auctioneer who is knowledgeable of valued coins and negotiate a deal for them to auction them off for you.
BTW, if you have every Morgan with a Carson City mm on them you have quite the collection.

Post pictures of the coins here on the forum and let's have a look at them. There may be forum members that are interested in them. Are you trying to sell them as a group or individually? With 13 coins I am assuming a complete date set of Morgans. What condition are they in, are they TPG graded? Are any of them in GSA holders? Inquiring minds want to know all these things.

You should try to keep 'em in the CCF Family!

I'd post them here on the B/S/T forum. The 1889-CC is one coin I'd take a pass on if raw since thousands of counterfeit examples have flooded the market and it's very expensive in all grades. Most of the other dates are fairly reasonable though and you should be able to find buyers right here at CCF.

WOW, do you guys ask questions....Yes they are all 13CC's. 8 are graded from MS62-to-MS65,3 are GSA's all will be graded/slabbed by NGC and registered. I am still waiting on NGC to return 3 more on the final grading (the K dates). Once I have them all in hand (2-weeks) I plan on selling them all "as a set" only. Once I get them all together, photos will follow my frinds.Thats a promise.

to be honest you could try to sell them here but if you can't ebay may be the best way for you to sale them yourself or you could cosign them to teletrade or some other auction house. Since you say you will not accept wholesale then you may not want to go with Heritage because I don't think they will allow you to bid on your own coins, teletrade will. A dealer would be out as well because all they will offer is a price they can make a profit off of

Post some pics and I'll take a look at buying if the price is right.

Quote: I would like to break even,(at the worst) and will not consider wholesale selling prices. Quote: Once I have them all in hand (2-weeks) I plan on selling them all "as a set" only. With all due respect, these two goals are probably incompatible. The kind of buyer who has the available cash, and numismatic interest, to purchase a set of that size, doesn't need it. It's common knowledge that set sales don't bring anywhere near the price of individual sales. Your best bet is to consign with a reputable auction house, or (if you like a little risk) ebay. CC Morgans do pretty well there.

I really appreciate all the info from you all. When you get right down to it, I think we "ALL" collect a set or sets because its super satisfying to do and the total-history involved in those particular years grips our imagination. Then due to unexpected circumstances, we may have to part with that "set", and we hope to find another person who may also enjoy those same feelings as ours, to have those particular pieces of history. Than you find out the "set" will sell financially-easier if the pieces are sold separately. I find that very sad, when monetary value has to take precedence over holding together a cultures history and art, in the form of a "set or collection". Sorry everyone,I didn't intent to say so much, but, it's how I feel and it's my opinion and it's "still sad".
