Collector, Capitalist or a combination there of. The questions is: Is there a coin in your collection that you simply won't part with, or, is every coin subject to sales at a decent profit? I have always been a capitalist and a conservative. Making money has always been the driving force. Every coin in my collection has always been for sales. Last night I was put to the test. I purchased a proof 1998-S Close AM from a member here on the forum a while back and was offered quite a profit from another collector. To my amazement, I turned him down. I simply like this coin and decided I wanted to keep it. This coin will go PR-69 easy and as BadThad states is very very rare. I was afraid that the collector in me was taking over. then I realized that I was just waiting for it to appreciate more. RIGHT, that is my excuse. Money cannot buy that coin right now. I AM A COLLECTOR! What are you? Jim

I'm definitely a collector. Looking for high grades doesn't even come in to play when I buy. In fact, I almost never buy any coin above XF. And the thought of future resale never enters my mind when I am looking for coins on my want list. That being said, if I came across a nice coin that wasn't on my want list and was very under-priced, I wouldn't hesitate to become a capitalist long enough to flip it! But, I don't go looking for them.

I'm more of a collector, however, for the right price I could part with almost anything. The one coin I could never sell is a 1905 Half Eagle I inherited from my great-grandmom. She raised 7 children in near poverty, but saved that coin for an unexpected emergency. She always said she was proud she never had to use it.

i am a collector the only time I have sold a coin or coins is to either get more coins I needed or I just didn't want the coin anymore. oh but I did buy the lincoln coin and chronicles set from the mint and flip it for a profit.

I guess I'm a flip-flopper.I look at a coin and admire it asking myself if I would sell it for the right price. The collector says no and the capitalist says yes.Kinda like the devil and angel on each shoulder.

I am a collector. I have never sold a coin. The closest I have come is trading some roll-hunt silver finds (duplicates of what I had) for some coins that I needed (specifically JFK half dollars traded for Franklin half dollars). I do consider myself a capitalist, but my coins are not in my investment portfolio.

I am a capitalist, with a very few exceptions.

I am a bit of both. I would sell any of my coins for the right price, but the $ would just go to buy more coins for my collection...

Collecting coins unfortunately takes up a fair bit of funds. So when I can upgrade my coin, I usually try and sell the lower grade ones. Of course this for me can be quite painstaking. So I think I'm somewhere in the middle.

I'm a collector that buys thinking that some day I may sell something but rarely do, unless I have a duplicate. I am trying to get better about reducing my hoard.

I'm a hardcore capitalist & get a lot of satisfaction from knowing I paid less than a coin is worth on the open market. I also enjoy coins in and of themselves, so I don't sell just because I have a "profit". I'll sell if the price is right and/or if I need funds for a new acquisition.

im a collector above all else. I suppose if the profit margin were large enough I could part with some coins but not many. I appreciate the history behind the coins so collecting to me is like putting a story together about history and our country and selling some would be like tearing the pages from the book.

I'm a collector. Actually, more of an accumlator. I look for deals and bargains, but will pay fair market value if I want the coin. While I do check the value of my purchases, it is only to see how good of a deal I got. I have yet to look at purchasing a coin with an eye toward flipping it for a profit. I have yet to sell a coin. However, if the price was right...

Purely a collector. Have never sold a coin and probably never will. Way to old to even try to figure out how to sell them. And then too, when you get really old, so what do you do with the money from such a sale anyway. Just more money for doctor bills.

I'm a capitalist but I still love coins! Any coin in my collection is for sale if the price is right. I've almost turned into an amateur coin dealer since getting laid-off last spring and returned to school full-time.
I keep a spreadsheet of my purchases and sales and have $25,576 in sales in the last year alone with roughly $15,000 additional in trades. That should put me firmly in the capitalist category.
