I am thinking of perhaps parting with this coin....even though it took me over 3 decades in the metal detecting hobby to find one. If it's just not worth much I'll probably keep it. Like I said, it took many years o find one.

Any idea what somebody might expect to pay for this S-65 shielded hair variety in corroded condition?

Take a look at Heritage. They have a few sold that match the condition, although the corrosion details are difficult to make out on many of their photos. I would say $150-250. Probably on the lower end...

I would probably hang onto it. It is a common variety and the severe corrosion drives the value way down. You might be able to get $200 for it and I expect the satisfaction of having found it would be more valuable than the cash. It looks like you have stabilized the corrosion so hopefully it won't get any worse.

Corroded coins will be avoided by many collectors so your potential buyer pool is somewhat limited. I for one would not consider a corroded coin, even though I do need a Liberty Cap for my type set.

Yeah, I know what you mean about the corrosion. It really is not a coin worthy of my type set either, but it was a cool coin to dig out of the ground. The thrill of the discovery is gone now though, and I'm looking at the fact that maybe selling this coin would get me close to filling one of the one dollar gold types (type 1) in my 7070. Then I'd just need 7 coins (4 gold) to complete the abbreviated type set in XF-AU. Then I could get to work on the issues the 7070 doesn't include....all of the spendiferous stuff, that in reality....I'll only be dreaming of for the forseeable future.
