Back In The 50's And The Early 60's...

In the late 50's in Flint Michigan, I recall numerous Buffalo nickels and Mercury dimes, not too many LW Halfs though. Of course tons of wheat cents and the occasional heavily worn IHC. I would only keep the nicest wheat cents, up to a quantity of 5 of each date and mint mark. That's all that would fit into a 2x2 envelope. Still have a very lightly circulated 1959 Canadian half, I put that into a flip the day I got it in change on my paper route.

My mother owned a restaurant near Lansing Michigan in the early and mid 60's. I was allowed to search through the till for older coins. Over the years I found many Indian head nickels and Mercury dimes also some Barber coins including V nickels. Many walking libs and some peace and Morgan dollars. She did have a friend that she let have the Barber dimes, I can remember being mad when I found a 1901 S and had to give it to him.

We had a corner store near our home. I would ride my bike around collecting pop (soda) bottles to take to that store, 2 cent deposit on a bottle. Most times I would buy a comic book with that money, but if I spied old coins in their cash register I would use the bottle money to buy coins. One time he they had a lot of walking libs I rode my bike home to get what money I had, and hit my mom for a couple bucks, went back and bought 12 from him, that was a big buy for me then, that like 1964 or 65.
