2007-D-Dollar,-Missing-Obverse-Manganese-Layer-Comments???

I am wondering how much of an error like this one are actually out there( as far as members know) and what others might feel about the actual rarity/value of such a piece.

I have weighed the coin, and the specs are as shown, I believe this to be a major error, being the Manganese layer is missing from the Obverse.

This coin has been given to me by a good friend/coin dealer, for comments and to ultimately put up for sale via E-Bay or here in the proper selling arena, all comments welcome, thanks to all in advance for the input, Mike......

Hi Mike. The weight appears to support the missing a layer. I really don't know the value of this error. I have heard of others missing the manganese layer. Maybe search the Heritage archives. I would think about getting it authenticated.

I would definitely get it slabbed. I have seen these go good on ebay before.

Guys, Thanks for your time and reply, I was thinking of placing it up for auction, here or the bay, or both. The owner does not want the added expense of slabbing the coin, Again thanks, Mike...
Rest in Peace

I was under the same impression about the amount, I just wanted to confirm the notion.
I will keep ALL informed, also, Thanks for the input.

I was offered 160.00 for it, but think it is much to low of a price for the "major error".I was thinking about placing the coin in the active auction arena soon, with a starting bid. Thank you ALL for the input, Mike...

So far I've heard of 2 TJeff with the same error, and only 1 JQA with the layer also missing. I think in a entire population of coins, maybe only 2 or 3 exist. Very nice!

I too collect error coins but this kind of an error, well, I am just not sure I would go this route, or maybe I will.

I am very undecided as to what I will do with this coin( I have been entrusted )to "do the right thing!

WD, Where are you getting your information? I too can not find another Madison dollar missing the outer "obverse" layer!
