I've had a medal lying around for years and I can't manage to identify it. After some Googling, I've narrowed it down to being of potential Romanian origin, but the specifics elude me. It has the same red enamel coloration as the Order of the Crown of Romania, but different form.

Any help would be appreciated.

Medal to be identified:

Order of the Crown of Romania:

EDIT:The date on the medal is 14 Martie 1881, which is some historical Romanian date. The inscription is 'Prin noi insine'.

The date "14 March 1881" does refer to King Carol I founding the Order of the Crown, and the Latin motto is identical, so it must be related to it. However, none of the actual decorations (medals) resemble this.

All I can suggest (and I'm just guessing) is that it may be a piece off of the sash of one of the higher orders. Check this image of the Order of the Star medal, of the type re-instated after the collapse of the Communist regime. It's got the main cross-shaped decoration, but a series of smaller decorations around it, all with similar but different designs to the central one. Perhaps the sahses on the higher awards of the Order of the Crown had similar ornaments.

It only has one ring attachment point at the top though. Part of it on the left side has broken off that had small Latin words in mirror to the ones on the right.

I guess it's a mystery then :).
