Just wanted to tell someone, anyone, everyone that I 've just added my 11,000th coin to the collection and I'm ecstatic. It's just a bog standard circulated Czech Republic 20 Korun (2004) but as precious as anything I have.
I think I'm more in love with them now than I have ever been but then I do now have the time to indulge myself.
Oh and also just added the 2,100th banknote.
Time to celebrate with a few beers tonight and bore my friends.

Congrats on reaching such a milestone. I surely hope that you do not wait to reach 12,000 before having a few more beers and boring your friends talk of coin and such.

Congradulations. However, just how sure are you that there really is 11,000 coins there? I think you should go back and recount just in case you made a mistake.

How do you keep track of such a large collection?

Well justcarl a slight problem there as about 40% of the collection is still back in England. But I have a few friends and family coming out to visit soon. So the strategy is... I tell them to pack as little as possible (you really only need tshirts, shorts and flipflops out here in Thailand) then they can make up the weight allowance with coins from my collection! When they've all arrived I'm going to do a serious review of the whole lot.
3stooges - Everything is on a single spreadsheet by country, denomination, km ref., date, comments (for mintmarks, commemmoratives etc.). The whole thing is very easy to manage and now I don't have to purchase everything put in front of me but can cherrypick. The same goes for my banknotes but I also have scans of them so can check for exactly everything I have especially for condition so I can upgrade if possible.
Also, highly recommended, all my krauss reference catalogs are on my laptop so if I'm away from home (as I am at the moment and, beleive me, I'm in the middle of nowhere) I can still do work and keep up with what's happening on this site etc.

I really wanted to go to Thailand when I was stationed in Japan but Carter closed it before I could get there.

Hey tyretiredwave the good news is Thailand's open again (forget the recent ballyhoo in Bangkok it's just some revolting peasants) but I guess the US Govt. wouldn't pay you to come now!

I can't even believe that anybody counts their collection in that way! Way to go!

I'm ready to stay in one place for while (never thought I'd hear myself say that).
