I have been buying and bidding on sooo many things I want! I really want these things but in the end I only have $20 to spend and end up getting like $70 worth of things. I can't even keep track of what I bought. I think I need to just get 1 or 2 things but I can't. I really want to expand my collection but I can't do that without buying or bidding. Time to take up coin shooting. Metal detecting, in other words. Start collecting bottle caps, pull tabs, keys, roofing nails ... and when you find your first corroded LMC, you'll be so excited that you'll forget all about ebay.

Your gonna just have to take your time and be patient. You are young, you have your whole life ahead of you. Bid on only the things that you can for sure buy. Its not fair to others if you are bidding or telling people to put stuff on hold if you cant for sure buy it. Some people put stuff up for sale because they need the money for something or another. If you cant for sure buy it right now, then pass, so someone else who has the money in hand can. Collect what you can now from roll searching, free handouts and such and then when you have money buy a coin that's worth it. Keep focused, and trust me. everything will work out in time. By the time your old enough to get a job you might not even be into coins anymore.

i agree with what has been said above - patience is a good thing. a little focus might also be useful. when I was your age, it was pretty spastic about my collection - I grabbed as much of everything as I could. I wish someone had told me to pick a couple series and focus on them, getting the highest grade coins I could afford. what are you currently collecting? have you decided on a single series or are you just trying to accumulate as much as you can of everything?
$20 can be used to get rolls from the bank. you can fill holes very quickly this way. turn in what you don't keep for more coins to search. cents and nickels are good to start. half dollars are harder because you'll be keeping most of your $20 at first. but the plus side is that with a little luck you might be able to find some silver and sell that for cash to spend on coins.

that's great! have you completed your LMC collection yet? if I were you, I would focus on getting my LMC collection up to ms or better. how are your wheats looking - do you have most date/mm combinations? you can probably find LWC from 1940-1959 in au with some effort. the steel cents and pre-1940 issues are going to be difficult but you can pick up the latter in rolls with enough looking. btw, I wouldn't worry about saving copper at this stage in the game. turn all copper lmcs back in and keep trying to upgrade and fill holes. you can save the wheats and sell off the duplicates in rolls with a small profit margin. good luck!

Most, not all, but most of the great deals you see on a coin will roll right back around, and often with a better grade coin.
Set Friday night as your buy night - only bid on stuff that ends that night. Watch other auctions to determine your max bidding point and focus on something you want but can afford. Good luck.

Well, I solved the problem by purchasing one of those red 2-headed candy machine. One side is filled with M&M's, and the other with Skittles. A few months ago, after a lot of patience, I placed it in a restaurant, and it makes $20-30 every month. I also came up with the idea of recycling cans and bottles, and that makes around $20. I occasionally use that money to go to my local pawn shop, and then buy whatever's cheap, and resell that for a profit. Add that with birthdays, Christmas, and other holidays, and I have a pretty good amount to spend. I hate asking my parents for money, as I feel like I'm just taking money from myself. Not saying you should do exactly what I do, but if you think outside the box there are some good ideas out there.

GREAT ideas, wheatguy! And, those are great words of advice: "Think outside the box" lafaa, another thing that might help: Like others have said, try to focus on one or two series. Then, pick some of your coins that don't fit your "new" collection and trade them with CCF members for the things that do fit. And keep roll searching! You're just going to have to be patient. You are very young. You have a lot of time in the years to come to get all the coins you "need" right now.
