I received this Morgan from my Uncle in 2006 ... he got it as a "bank gift" years before that ... came from the bank in a long plastic case. Some serious funk attached to it ... I'm pretty sure this is an UNC coin, but ...
I stuck the coin in a flip and stored it away ... I have no clue how to remove the flaky debris on the coin, so I just left it alone.
I saw another guy a while back that had a similar issue ... thoughts?
Its really hard to tell what the condition of the cheek and fields are but they look relatively clean. It appears it may be at least MS64 but again its hard to tell with all of the gunk on it.
It's a bit difficult to say for sure because of all the dirt, but from what I can see I would grade this coin at AU-50. I would like to see what it looks like after an acetone bath.
I'd leave this one alone. Even if you can remove the splotches, the surfaces under them will have aged differently from the exposed surfaces, so all you'll end up with is a similar case of measles in different colors. It'll never look "right." It's a relatively common date, and not worth huge money even in Mint State.
SuperDave makes a good point and I agree that there will probably be splotches under the dirt, but IMO it would look much better after a dip than what it looks like now.
