Quote: Yeah, I was the one who took it to $400 GRRRRR I'm sure we were thinking the same thing....."boy I might get that for melt"...lol. I think I read somewhere that you had cherrypicked them before, so it was nice for you to leave me one....even if it was at a price. How confident were you that it was a 16? I was quite confident. I went up to $700 on that bid mainly because the latest Heritage auctions show them at around $1500 problem free in this grade, and I wanted to leave room in case it was a problem coin.

I didn't leave it for you. I lost it to you. I'm off this board before I say something to get thrown off.

Honestly, I thought it was neat to meet the person who was thinking the same thing that I was when they saw that lot.....I honestly wasn't trying to be a jerk about anything. Again, I'm sorry.

LOL - are you serious? A month later and grumpy over losing a bidding war? If you don't want to lose a bidding war - spend more.

He has probably cherrypicked more of these than anyone else I've seen so far.....from Nod'S dateless 1916 thread "The questionable one is definitely a 1916 nod. I've cherrypicked 2 of these in my years collecting, the second one very recently." So it's not like he hasn't had his fair share of meat off of this numismatic bone.
My first post I guess could have come across like I was making fun of him, but I was really just trying to better understand how he thinks, since he is obviously quite good at cherrypicking these.

Online auction rule: Bid what you are willing to pay. If someone else is willing to pay more, they win.
Period.
Then you get on with your life.
Class dismissed!

Johnny, Your first post didn't come across wrong at all. You did nothing wrong or anything to be sorry about. You won that auction fair and square. Congrats on your find!

Johnny, don't worry about it, you said nothing wrong. If he really wanted that coin so much he should have bid more money on it. SuperDave hit the nail on the head, the other guy was acting like a child. If losing an ebay auction makes him that mad I hope he never goes to a real auction where the other bidders are standing right next to him!

Thanks for the support. I know sometimes written words get misinterpretted and don't alway come across as I intend them too, and I tend to joke around a lot. Maybe he just was having a bad day.
