Alas, my fair maiden hath arrived. And she is quite "fair", wouldn't you agree? I am 99.99% sure this is a 1916. All of the diagnostics match, and there is even enough detail to see the broken beads over her head. There are a few wispy scratches on the obverse, but they arent very noticible and I think they are allowed given the coin is no better than FR-02. WOOHOO!!

Wow, congratulations. Some people seem to have all the luck. Nice coin, I assume it's going into your SLQ set?

Thanks! Although I will say that I have been searching for this coin for months, so I didn't quite stumble on it by accident(like lucky Nod...lol). Here is the lot. You can see it (upside down) in the first column, second row. I had been following this lot for a week prior, praying that no one else would notice the 1916 since it was upside down..lol. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...TRK:MEWNX:ITI would have gotten the lot for closer to melt if it wasn't for 1 bidder who jacked it up to $400. This lot also contained a 17 and 17-d type 1, a weakly dated 17-d type 2, and a weak 1918. Since there is $120 worth of silver in this lot also, I am into the 1916 at the tune of around $260 or so. It was a gamble, but it worked out. I just needed some additional eyes to make sure I wasn't seeing things, so thanks!

Great deal, I'd pay $260 for a $900+ coin any day. I wonder what the seller was thinking. Strange, the listing has been removed. Has it been that long since you won?

wheatguy, try clicking on it again. I updated it since the first link didnt work. Oh, and I am putting the 1916 into my collection. Right now it is in some of my blank quarter pages of the washington album, happy next to a bunch of dateless 1917s.

Thanks. The first thing that caught my eye was the lack of shield detail, since practically all of the 17s have strong rivet detail almost down to PO-1. Anyways, this seller has some crazy lots. He was kind of my "secret source" for a while, but it seems that lots of others are catching on anyways and the cats out of the bag. Here is another one I was bidding on for a while, until the price went to the moon. It was a lot more obvious though with the high end 1923-s. Still scary to bid that high on small pics, but someone sure wanted it. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...TRK:MEWAX:ITNormally the term "unsearched" doesn't mean anything to me on ebay; but this seller(and his alter usernames) is an exception. He seems to have continuous hoards of crazy stuff. He is where I've bought most of my SLQs, including the 2 1921s that I got for melt.

Wow, I think I'll get into this SLQ buying game. Just sold about $16 face of silver, that should give me a bit to spend on of of these SLQ rolls. But I'm about to buy a 20-D in VF, so I think I need to relax and slowly save up for each item.

Even though I have all the keys, most of my set is made of junk finds and yours is more attractive altogether. I should be receiving my SLQ dansco in a few days, so I will get some photos up.

Ok, in regards to the 1916; with all of this talk about PCGS "secure plus"; do you think this would grade a FR2+ ? It seems stronger than the ANACS FR-2s on Heritage, but it's not nearly as strong as the AG-03s, but it does have a full obverse rim. hmm....

You have to pay extra in order for it to have the shield and have the chance of grading with a plus.

Johnny, a coin below EF-45 is not elible for "plus" designation. No big deal, because coins in problem-free PCGS slabs tend to pull more money than those in ANACS slabs anyway.
