I'm happy with my coin store purchase today... went looking for a War Nickel, but they were priced higher than I expected. This was one of the cheapest they had, and when I flipped it over: it may just be full steps. It's a 1943-P... paid $8. It's got a little spot over AMERICA, but who among us is perfect?

Looks pretty good. Little ding on bottom step about 70% of the way across......., but dang fine looking coin for being nearly 70 yrs old!

I think this had 6 full steps. The cut on the bottom step does not go into the second, but there is a light diagonal hit across the others between the first and second pillar and then another similar hit between the second and third. For the grader, it might go 5 full steps because those two hits do not go as deep as the space between and having that much of a 6 th step present, it might make up for the hits and they might designate 5FS but it would not make 6FS.
LATE EDIT: I looked at this at 400% zoom again and see a cut on the top step. I think that it might be the factor that might keep this out of being FS unless the grader is very forgiving.

Wheezy -- thanks for looking so closely and sharing your expertise. This coin is now resting in my Dansco, I hope to find it some more friends soon.

Very nice. The wartime nickels are so sweet looking when they're uncirculated and so ugly when they are not. My set has a mixture of both circulated and uncirculated and it quickly begame apparent the dirty one's got to be replaced.
Congrats on the full steps, I don't even try to go there on the older jefferson.

I'd like to see both sides of this coin. Could you please post them if you have them already but if not maybe better keep it safe in the Dansco where it belongs.

Yeah, my dealer offered me $.45 each, so I put them on Craigslist and got $.75 each for them. Not too bad considering I picked them up for $.60 each when silver was lower.

$.75 each isn't bad, I see rolls selling anywhere from $33 to $40 bucks on the bay.....

And 25-30 years from now they'll sell for AT LEAST a $1.00 apiece minimum, and in bad condition !.....that's "my" thinkin' ! .....

"1.0284509230 is the total melt value for the 1942-1945 silver nickel on April 02, 2010." this is metal value computation quote from a War Nickel value site

I hope that link isn't an April Fool's joke about the silver.
That cut step on the nickel looks like a wheelchair accessible ramp!
